Combining GLP-1 based therapies (GBTs) with individualized nutritional and physical activity interventions is necessary to preserve lean muscle mass, mitigate gastrointestinal adverse effects, and optimize long-term weight management outcomes.

When starting a GLP-1 medication like Ozempic or Wegovy, do not rely on the drug alone. You must actively manage your diet and exercise. Aim for 1.2 to 1.5 grams of protein per kilogram of your body weight every day, and engage in resistance training (weight lifting) at least twice a week alongside 150 minutes of moderate cardio. If you experience nausea, eat smaller, more frequent meals and stay hydrated. This combination prevents muscle loss and helps you stick with the treatment.

ModerateSupportsMEDIUM confidence
