Intensive multi-factorial pharmacotherapy combined with intensive lifestyle interventions significantly reduces estimated coronary heart disease (CHD) and stroke risk in newly diagnosed type 2 diabetes patients compared to conventional therapy over a 1-year period.
For newly diagnosed type 2 diabetes patients, adopting an intensive multi-factorial therapy approach that includes both medication and lifestyle changes (diet, exercise, education) can significantly reduce the risk of heart disease and stroke within just one year. This approach is feasible in daily practice and can be implemented without overwhelming patients or physicians.
At M12, coronary heart disease (CHD)/fatal-CHD risks were significantly lower in the Intensive (7.5%/3.1%) than in the Control (17.95%/10.3%) group (p<0.05). A similar trend was observed for the stroke/fatal-stroke risks.
