In the largest prospective trial of LCHF diet ‑ the Prospective Urban Rural Epidemiology (PURE) trial, higher intake of fat and animal protein was associated with lower mortality, whereas higher carbohydrate intake increased mortality, contrary to popular beliefs.[8]
