During maximal dynamic sprint cycling, the Root Mean Square (RMS) magnitude of surface electromyography (SEMG) does not significantly change from pre-fatigue to post-fatigue states, despite significant reductions in power output and cycling speed.

If you are using wearable EMG to monitor fatigue during sprint cycling, do not rely on the RMS magnitude of the signal. The study shows that even when you are significantly fatigued (power drops >50%), the electrical signal magnitude (RMS) stays roughly the same. Instead, monitor power output and cycling speed, which do reflect the fatigue state. SEMG RMS is not a reliable indicator of fatigue during maximal dynamic efforts.

From this study we can conclude that there is no significant change in the magnitude of SEMG due to muscle fatigue at maximal level of contraction during cyclic activity for all but one group of muscles of the leg (Lateral gastrocnemius -outside calf muscle).
