Energy balance

High-calorie-expenditure exercise (3000-3500 kcal/week) produces significantly greater weight loss and fat mass reduction than standard cardiac rehabilitation exercise (700-800 kcal/week) in overweight coronary heart disease patients.

To lose more weight and improve heart health, focus on burning more calories through exercise rather than just following standard cardiac rehab routines. Aim for 3000-3500 calories of exercise energy per week, which translates to walking 5-7 days a week for 45-60 minutes at a moderate pace. Combine this with a modest calorie-restricted diet and behavioral counseling for best results. This approach is safe for most overweight heart patients and leads to double the weight loss of standard programs.

StrongSupportsVERY_HIGH confidence
High-calorie-expenditure exercise resulted in double the weight loss (8.2±4 versus 3.7±5 kg; P<0.001) and fat mass loss (5.9±4 versus 2.8±3 kg; P<0.001)... than standard CR exercise at 5 months.
