Energy balance
Sibutramine (10-30 mg/day) significantly reduces daily energy and macronutrient intake in non-dieting women with obesity, primarily by reducing lunch and dinner consumption without affecting breakfast.
For women with obesity who are not actively dieting, taking Sibutramine (10-30mg) leads to a significant, automatic reduction in daily calorie intake, specifically at lunch and dinner, without requiring conscious effort to restrict food. This suggests the drug alters satiety signals or food selection behaviors rather than just willpower.
SIB significantly reduced total daily energy intakes... On day 7, intake with SIB 30 was significantly less than with placebo... On day 14, both SIB 10 and SIB 30 significantly reduced energy intakes relative to that with placebo... Analysis of the pattern of the effects on intake over the test days indicated that only intakes at lunch and dinner were reduced: at breakfast, no significant differences were found between drug treatments on either day 7 or day 14.
