Energy balance

Lifestyle interventions leading to weight loss preferentially mobilize visceral fat compared to subcutaneous fat, thereby improving cardiometabolic risk profiles.

When you lose weight through diet and exercise, your body tends to burn off dangerous belly fat (visceral fat) before it burns off fat under the skin. Use waist circumference as a better measure of success than the scale alone, as reducing your waist size directly lowers your risk of heart disease and diabetes.
