Public health strategies targeting the obesogenic environment (e.g., SSB taxes, zoning, produce prescriptions) are necessary to support individual weight management efforts, as individual lifestyle advice is undermined by environmental factors.

Individual willpower is not enough in an environment designed to promote obesity. Support public health policies like sugar taxes, zoning for healthy food access, and produce prescription programs. These environmental changes make healthy choices easier and more affordable.

recommended interventions can be counteracted or undermined by the obesogenic environment. Thus, despite decades of advice to adopt healthy eating patterns... the Healthy Eating Index (HEI) score 2020... was only 58/100... The importance of tackling the obesogenic environment is reflected in recommendations 2–4 of the TFAH obesity 2023 report (39).

Why this rating
