Mitochondrial dysfunction and the resulting accumulation of reactive oxygen species (ROS) are primary drivers of aging and age-related diseases, creating a vicious cycle of oxidative damage to mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA) and cellular energy depletion.

Aging is closely linked to mitochondrial health and oxidative stress. While you cannot stop ROS entirely (they are necessary for signaling), maintaining mitochondrial function through regular physical activity and a balanced diet is the most evidence-supported approach to mitigating age-related decline. Be skeptical of antioxidant supplements claiming to reverse aging, as clinical evidence for lifespan extension in humans is lacking.
