Energy balance
Large-volume abdominal liposuction in obese women fails to improve insulin sensitivity, inflammatory markers, or coronary heart disease risk factors, despite significant reduction in subcutaneous fat mass.
Liposuction removes fat but does not fix the metabolic problems associated with obesity, such as insulin resistance or inflammation. If your goal is to improve metabolic health or reduce heart disease risk, liposuction alone is not sufficient; you must achieve a negative energy balance through diet and lifestyle changes to get those benefits.
Abdominal liposuction does not significantly improve obesity-associated metabolic abnormalities. Decreasing adipose tissue mass alone will not achieve the metabolic benefits of weight loss.
Why this rating
Randomized controlled trial design (pre/post with strict controls), published in NEJM, with rigorous metabolic measurements (clamps).
