High sedentary behavior is associated with an increased risk of developing type 2 diabetes mellitus, independent of demographic factors and adiposity indices, although BMI partially mediates this effect.

Reduce time spent watching TV and sitting. Each additional 2 hours of daily TV viewing increases diabetes risk by 20%. Replacing sitting with standing or walking around the home can reduce this risk.

GoodSupportsHIGH confidence
High sedentary behavior has been associated with increased risk of type 2 diabetes mellitus in both men and women of diverse ethnic backgrounds... Adjustment for indices of adiposity (typically body mass index [BMI] or waist circumference) in the models usually reduced the effect size, which supports the notion that the association could be mediated in part through excess weight.
