Classification of dietary fiber by water solubility is an unreliable predictor of physiological effects, as solubility does not directly correlate with fermentability or short-chain fatty acid (SCFA) profiles.

Do not choose foods based on whether they are 'soluble' or 'insoluble' fiber. This classification is scientifically flawed for predicting health benefits. Instead, eat a variety of fiber-rich whole foods (vegetables, fruits, whole grains, legumes) to ensure you get a mix of physiological effects.
