Creatine supplementation attenuates noise-induced hearing loss and protects inner/outer hair cells in mice, suggesting a preventive role for noise-exposed individuals.
If you work in a noisy environment or are concerned about hearing loss, creatine supplementation may help protect your inner ear hair cells. While most people take creatine for muscle, it also supports energy production in sensory cells. It is safe and may offer a preventive benefit against noise-induced damage.

Cr supplementation of healthy wild-type mice significantly attenuates noise-induced destruction of inner and more so of outer hair cells and the concomitant hearing loss (Minami et al. 2007). These data indicate that the maintenance of ATP levels by the CK/PCr system, possibly together with anti-oxidant properties of Cr, are important for attenuating temporary and permanent noise-induced hearing loss. Thus, Cr supplementation may be recommended as a preventive measure in professionally noise-exposed individuals.
