Patients with non-alcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH) exhibit a significantly lower relative abundance of Bacteroidetes in their intestinal microbiota compared to healthy controls and those with simple steatosis, an association that persists independently of BMI and dietary fat intake.

The difference in C. coccoides was no longer significant after adjusting for BMI and fat intake.
