Energy balance
Prescribed physical activity interventions alone, without dietary restriction, do not significantly influence weight loss outcomes in overweight adults.
If your goal is weight loss, exercise alone is not enough. You must also manage your calorie intake. While exercise improves health and fitness, it does not significantly drive weight loss without dietary changes.
GoodRefutesMEDIUM confidence
Two hundred seventy-eight overweight adults were randomly assigned to one of 3 groups... without interventions promoting a reduction in energy intake. As a result, percent of weight change over 18 months did not differ among the 3 groups, despite the existence of significant differences in physical activity among the groups.
Why this rating
Based on RCTs, but specific studies cited are older and may have adherence issues.
