For heart failure treatment, diuretics are more effective than exercise interventions in reducing mortality.
If you have heart failure, standard drug treatments (specifically diuretics and beta-blockers) are currently more effective than exercise alone at reducing mortality risk. Exercise should be considered a complementary therapy, not a replacement for medication.
LimitedRefutesLOW confidence
Diuretics were more effective than exercise (0.24, 0.04 to 0.85)... In heart failure, fewer deaths occurred with diuretics (0.19, 0.03 to 0.66) and β blockers (0.71, 0.61 to 0.80) compared with control
Why this rating
Small number of exercise trials (18) and specific drug trials (diuretics n=202) limit generalizability.

- For stroke rehabilitation, exercise interventions are significantly more effective than drug interventions (anticoagulants and antiplatelets) in reducing mortality.Limited
