Increasing the protein fraction of a meal significantly increases diet-induced thermogenesis (DIT) compared to carbohydrate or fat, with protein showing the highest thermic effect among macronutrients.
To maximize the calories your body burns during digestion, increase the protein content of your meals. Studies show that for every 1% increase in the protein fraction of your diet, diet-induced thermogenesis increases significantly. This not only burns more energy but also helps regulate food intake through increased satiety.

In a regression analysis of the remaining 19 studies, the protein fraction of the food came out as significant determinant of DIT. An increase in the protein fraction of one % resulted in an increase of DIT with 0.22 ± 0.42 % (p < 0.05).
