Rosiglitazone increases insulin clearance in patients with type 2 diabetes, which contributes to the decrease in fasting serum insulin concentrations.
Rosiglitazone helps the liver clear insulin more efficiently, which lowers fasting insulin levels. This is linked to the drug's ability to reduce liver fat and increase adiponectin. Metformin does not have this effect on insulin clearance.
GoodSupportsHIGH confidence
Rosiglitazone... increased insulin clearance by 20%... The decrease of serum adiponectin concentrations correlated with the decrease in liver fat... The decrease in liver fat by rosiglitazone is associated with an increase in serum adiponectin concentrations.
Why this rating
Measured using precise kinetic methods (primed-continuous infusion), but small sample size.

- Rosiglitazone reduces liver fat content and increases insulin clearance in patients with type 2 diabetes, whereas metformin improves hepatic insulin sensitivity without altering liver fat.Good
- Rosiglitazone increases serum adiponectin concentrations and adipose tissue gene expression of PPAR-gamma, adiponectin, and lipoprotein lipase, whereas metformin does not.Good
