Phlorizin, derived from unripe apples, reduces postprandial glucose response approximately two-fold and increases urinary glucose excretion fivefold in healthy volunteers within 2-4 hours of ingestion.
Consuming phlorizin from unripe apples can significantly blunt blood sugar spikes after a meal and increase sugar excretion in urine. This effect happens quickly, within 15-30 minutes, and lasts for a few hours.
GoodSupportsHIGH confidence
Acute ingestion of the apple preparation improved glucose metabolism in the oral glucose tolerance test by reducing the postprandial glucose response approximately two-fold after 15 to 30 min and by increasing urinary glucose excretion fivefold during the 2 to 4 h interval of the test [84].
Why this rating
Cites a specific study [84] with clear quantitative outcomes in a defined population.

- Initial treatment for type 2 diabetes should be a combination of metformin and either an SGLT-2 inhibitor or a GLP-1 receptor agonist to achieve cardiorenal protection, rather than monotherapy or older agents like sulfonylureas.Strong
