Energy balance

Moderate energy restriction and weight loss can reverse some immune impairments associated with obesity, such as reduced lymphocyte proliferation and NK cell activity.

Losing weight through moderate caloric restriction can help reverse some of the immune system weaknesses associated with obesity. However, the process might cause temporary fluctuations in certain immune markers. Focus on sustainable, moderate weight loss rather than extreme diets to support long-term immune health.

a moderate energy restriction (1200–1390 kcal d-1 for 12 weeks) is associated with decreases in mitogen-stimulated proliferation responses... and significant decreases in monocyte oxidative bursts as well as of NK cells counts

Why this rating

The paper cites studies showing mixed results: some show improvement, others show transient decreases in specific markers. The evidence is observational and from small trials.
