Energy balance
Regular physical activity, specifically moderate aerobic activity (150-300 min/week) combined with strength training (2-3 times/week), is a critical factor for weight maintenance and maximizing weight loss after bariatric surgery.
To keep the weight off after surgery, make exercise a habit. Aim for at least 150 minutes of moderate aerobic activity (like brisk walking) each week, working up to 300 minutes if possible. Add strength training 2-3 times a week to build muscle. Start these activities as soon as your doctor says it's safe after your operation.
A positive relationship between physical activity levels and the amount of weight loss after bariatric surgery has been observed... Regular physical activity should therefore be encouraged after bariatric surgery... Patients should be advised to incorporate moderate aerobic physical activity, i.e., a minimum of 150 min/week (with a goal of 300 min/week) as well as strength training 2–3 times/week.
Why this rating
Based on guidelines and observational studies (Grade A/Level 1+ or 2++ evidence per Table 1, though specific RCTs are not detailed in this excerpt).

- Post-bariatric patients should target a minimal protein intake of 60 g/day up to 1.5 g/kg ideal body weight per day, utilizing liquid protein supplements (30 g/day) in the early post-operative period to prevent lean body mass loss and protein malnutrition.Good
- Long-term mineral and multivitamin supplementation should be prescribed to every bariatric patient according to the procedure, with periodic laboratory surveillance to individualize supplementation based on demonstrated deficiencies.Good
