Aim for 7-8 hours of sleep per night. Both sleeping significantly less (5-6 hours) and significantly more (9-10 hours) is associated with greater weight and fat gain over time. Prioritize sleep consistency and duration as a key factor in weight management, independent of diet and exercise.
This study provides evidence that both short and long sleeping times predict an increased risk of future body weight and fat gain in adults.
