Polyunsaturated fatty acid (PUFA) intake has a cardio-protective effect in studies with follow-up durations of more than 10 years.
In long-term studies (>10 years), higher PUFA intake is associated with a 5% reduction in CVD risk. This suggests PUFA may be protective over time, although overall meta-analysis results were not significant.
