In nonobese adults, non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) is associated with intestinal dysbiosis characterized by decreased microbial diversity, reduced Firmicutes (specifically SCFA-producing Lachnospiraceae and Ruminococcaceae), and increased Gram-negative bacteria, which correlates with elevated liver enzymes and metabolic markers.

If you are nonobese but have been diagnosed with fatty liver, your gut health likely plays a significant role. This condition is linked to a specific imbalance in gut bacteria (less Firmicutes, more Gram-negative bacteria) that correlates with liver stress.
