In patients with Nonalcoholic Steatohepatitis (NASH), improvement in hepatic steatosis (reduced intrahepatic triglyceride content) is associated with a specific shift in gut microbiota composition, characterized by a reduction in Firmicutes and an increase in Bacteroidetes.

If you have NASH, your gut bacteria composition is likely different from healthy individuals, specifically with lower levels of beneficial Firmicutes and higher Bacteroidetes. While taking probiotics alone did not significantly reduce liver fat in this study, the *shift* in your gut bacteria (more Bacteroidetes, less Firmicutes) correlates with better liver health. Focus on dietary patterns that support this microbial balance rather than relying on probiotic supplements alone.
