Analysis showed a significant lowering of HbA1C and FBG on metformin compared with the placebo group... At the end of the active treatment, the HbA1C (metformin: 7.4 +/- 0.2% vs. placebo: 8.3 +/- 0.2%; p<0.05) and FBG (metformin: 6.7 +/- 0.4 mmol/L vs. 7.9 +/- 0.8 mmol/L; p<0.05) levels were significantly lower in the metformin group.
