If you are obese, standard Vitamin D doses (like 800 IU) may not be enough to reach optimal blood levels. You likely need a higher dose to overcome the sequestration of Vitamin D in fat tissue. Compared with participants with a normal body mass index (<=25 kg/m2), obese women (>=30 kg/m2) had a 25-(OH)D level that was 17.8 nmol/L lower.
