Bariatric surgery is NOT associated with a significantly lower risk of incident cerebrovascular disease (stroke) compared to usual medical care in patients with type 2 diabetes and severe obesity at 5 years.

For patients with severe obesity and type 2 diabetes, bariatric surgery is associated with a significantly lower risk of coronary artery disease, but the reduction in stroke risk was not statistically significant at 5 years.
