Insulin resistance (IR) is a primary pathophysiological driver of Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus (T2DM) and metabolic syndrome, and can be effectively screened using the Homeostasis Model Assessment of Insulin Resistance (HOMA-IR).

This involves a simple fasting blood test for glucose and insulin. Identifying IR early allows for lifestyle changes (diet and exercise) to prevent Type 2 Diabetes.
