Moderate weight loss alone, without concurrent improvement in aerobic fitness, fails to restore the capacity for fat oxidation in overweight and obese individuals, although it may improve insulin's suppression of fat oxidation.
If you lose weight without exercising aerobically, your muscles may still struggle to burn fat efficiently. To fully restore metabolic flexibility, combine weight loss with aerobic fitness training.
