Nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) acts as an independent cardiometabolic risk factor that exacerbates hepatic insulin resistance, increases the incidence of type 2 diabetes (T2DM), and worsens glycemic control and vascular complications in patients with established T2DM.
