High concentrations of alpha-lipoic acid can have pro-oxidant and pro-apoptotic effects on pancreatic beta cells, potentially worsening diabetes pathology.
Be cautious with high doses of ALA. While therapeutic doses for neuropathy are safe, extremely high concentrations may harm pancreatic beta cells. Stick to clinically relevant doses.
