Cardiac rehabilitation (CR) is a cornerstone of secondary prevention in patients with cardiovascular disease (CVD). Exercise training is the cornerstone of CR and has been shown to improve cardiorespiratory fitness (peak VO2), which is a strong predictor of mortality in patients with CVD. Type 2 diabetes (T2D) is a major risk factor for CVD. Patients with T2D have a higher cardiovascular risk than non-diabetic patients with CVD. Exercise training improves insulin sensitivity, glycemic control, and cardiovascular risk factors in patients with T2D.
