Exercise training improves dialysis adequacy (Kt/V) when performed intradialytically for sufficient duration (>=6 months).
If you exercise during your dialysis sessions, doing so for at least 6 months may improve the effectiveness of your dialysis (Kt/V). Shorter durations (under 2 months) may not provide this specific benefit.
ModerateQualifiesMEDIUM confidence
One uncontrolled trial has demonstrated an improvement in dialysis adequacy (Kt/V) with 6 months of intradialytic aerobic training using cycle ergometers [11]. By contrast, two trials implementing shorter training durations (7 and 8 weeks) have not observed an improvement in Kt/V [30, 38].
Why this rating
Based on limited evidence (one positive uncontrolled trial, two negative short-term trials).
