In community-dwelling adults aged 80+, the Short Physical Performance Battery (SPPB) score and Self-Rated Health (SRH) status are independent, significant predictors of all-cause mortality, with the SPPB chair stand subtask being the strongest physical predictor.

For adults over 80, getting a Short Physical Performance Battery (SPPB) test and honestly assessing your general health status are powerful ways to predict longevity risk. The chair stand test (standing up from a chair 5 times) is a key component of the SPPB and is as useful as the full battery for predicting mortality. You do not need to combine these with other complex tests for better prediction; focusing on these simple metrics is sufficient.
