The metabolic and musculoskeletal effects of short-term physical inactivity are reversible in younger adults but less so in older adults.

If you are young, you can likely reverse the negative metabolic and muscle effects of a few weeks of inactivity by returning to your normal routine. If you are older, recovery may be slower and less complete. It is more important for older adults to avoid long periods of inactivity in the first place.
