Daily oral administration of pasteurized Akkermansia muciniphila reduces diet-induced obesity in mice by increasing whole-body energy expenditure and enhancing fecal energy excretion.

This research suggests that consuming pasteurized Akkermansia muciniphila may help reduce body fat and increase energy expenditure in individuals prone to obesity, particularly those consuming high-fat diets. The mechanism involves not just burning more energy, but also excreting more energy through the feces due to changes in carbohydrate absorption and intestinal cell turnover. While this was shown in mice, it highlights the potential of specific, processed probiotics for metabolic health.
