Energy balance

Urban residence in Egypt is strongly associated with higher obesity prevalence compared to rural residence, driven by abundant food supply and sedentary lifestyle.

If you live in an urban area, especially as a woman in Egypt, your risk of obesity is significantly higher than in rural areas. This is due to a combination of easier access to high-calorie foods, cultural norms that may favor higher body weight, and structural barriers to physical activity like living in high-rise buildings without elevators. To counter this, focus on increasing daily movement and being mindful of the high energy density of available foods.
