Caloric restriction (CR) and calorie restriction mimetics (CRMs) like resveratrol retard brain aging and neurodegeneration by activating stress response pathways (e.g., SIRT1) and reducing oxidative/inflammatory stress.
Caloric restriction is the most robust intervention for slowing aging, but it is difficult to sustain. If you cannot maintain a 20-50% calorie reduction, consider consuming foods rich in polyphenols (like berries, walnuts, turmeric) or resveratrol, which may mimic some of the metabolic benefits of CR without the severe dietary restriction.
As demonstrated in numerous animal models, CR has proven to be the most effective means to retard aging, including brain aging. Reducing intake of a nutritious diet by 20 –50% can increase lifespan, reduce incidence and retard onset of chronic diseases, enhance stress protection, and maintain youthful behavioral function...
