Energy balance

Higher county-level poverty rates are strongly associated with higher obesity rates, driven primarily by increased sedentariness rather than just food access.

If you live in an area with limited resources, focus on reducing sedentary time as much as possible, as lack of movement is a primary driver of obesity in these settings. Look for low-cost ways to increase non-exercise activity, as the barrier is often access to facilities rather than just food.

ModerateSupportsMEDIUM confidence
In contrast to international trends, people in America who live in the most poverty-dense counties are those most prone to obesity... More than half of county-to-county variance in obesity can be accounted for by variance in sedentariness.
