Inulin supplementation reduces hepatic steatosis and adiposity in obese individuals only when specific bacterial genera (Barnesiella, Bilophila, Butyricimonas, Victivallis) are decreased and others (Clostridium XIVa, Raoultella, Blautia, Akkermansia) are increased.

This finding explains WHY some people lose fat on inulin and others don't. It's not just about taking the powder; it's about whether your gut bacteria can utilize it to produce beneficial metabolic changes. If your bacteria don't shift in the right way (e.g., increasing Akkermansia), you won't get the liver fat benefits.
