Strength training reduces the relative proportion of intramuscular fat in the quadriceps of elderly women, whereas endurance training does not significantly affect this proportion.
Strength training helps clear out fat stored inside your muscles, which is linked to better metabolic health. This benefit was seen with strength training but not with endurance training in this study.
GoodSupportsHIGH confidence
The relative proportion of fat within the quadriceps muscle decreased in the strength-training group compared with the endurance-training group.
Why this rating
RCT design, objective CT measurement of fat proportion.
