Accumulation of Persistent Organic Pollutants (POPs) in adipose tissue is associated with a metabolically unhealthy obesity phenotype, suggesting that environmental toxins may drive metabolic dysfunction and inflammation.

Reducing body fat may help lower your body burden of environmental toxins stored in adipose tissue. Prioritize a diet low in highly processed foods and high-fat animal products, which can be sources of certain POPs, and maintain a healthy weight to minimize the reservoir for these metabolic disruptors.
