A daily intake of 600 mg caffeine combined with 270-1200 mg EGCG (from green tea and Guarana extracts) significantly increases 24-hour energy expenditure by approximately 750 kJ (8%) in healthy men compared to placebo, but does not significantly increase fat oxidation or heart rate.
Taking a supplement containing 600mg of caffeine and 270-1200mg of EGCG (from green tea/Guarana) three times a day before meals will increase your total daily energy expenditure by about 750 kJ (roughly 180 kcal). However, this does not translate to increased fat burning (lipid oxidation) and higher doses of EGCG do not provide extra metabolic benefits. Be aware of a slight increase in diastolic blood pressure, though heart rate remains stable.
Twenty-four hour energy expenditure increased significantly by about 750 kJ with all EGCG– caffeine mixtures compared with placebo. No effect of the EGCG–caffeine mixture was observed for lipid oxidation. ... The main finding of the study was the increase in 24 h energy expenditure with the EGCG–caffeine mixtures.
