Sarcopenia cutoff values for appendicular lean mass index (ALM/Ht2) can be established using MF-BIA with a disclosed, age-independent equation, yielding values (6.8 kg/m2 for men, 5.7 kg/m2 for women) similar to those derived from DXA.
For clinical screening of sarcopenia in Japanese adults, MF-BIA can be used to identify at-risk individuals using cutoffs of 6.8 kg/m2 for men and 5.7 kg/m2 for women. These values are comparable to DXA-based standards, allowing for accessible screening without radiation exposure.
The sarcopenia cut off value established in the current study was very similar to the value from the previous publication using DXA [46], and within the range previously published in the literature.
