Low serum 25-hydroxyvitamin D levels (<50 nmol/L) are strongly associated with frailty in older men, but this association is significantly weaker or non-significant in older women.
If you are an older man, maintaining Vitamin D levels above 50 nmol/L may be critical for preventing frailty, as low levels are strongly linked to it. For women, the link is much weaker, suggesting other factors might be more dominant. Consult a doctor to check your specific levels, as the 'standard' threshold might not apply equally to both sexes.
