Daily ingestion of yogurt containing heat-treated Lactobacillus plantarum OLL2712 (≥5×10^9 cells) for 12 weeks significantly reduces HbA1c levels in prediabetic adults compared to placebo, primarily by preventing the aggravation of chronic inflammation and insulin resistance.

If you are prediabetic, eating 112 grams of yogurt containing heat-treated Lactobacillus plantarum OLL2712 every day for 3 months can help lower your average blood sugar (HbA1c) more than eating regular yogurt. It works by calming chronic inflammation that drives insulin resistance. You do not need to change your diet or exercise routine for this to work, but you should maintain your normal habits.

GoodSupportsHIGH confidence
Reduced HbA1c levels after 12 weeks of treatment were observed in both groups compared to those at baseline; however, the 12-week reduction of HbA1c levels was significantly greater in the OLL2712 group than in the placebo group. Increased chronic inflammation marker levels and insulin-resistant index (HOMA-IR) occurred in the placebo group but not in the OLL2712 group.
