Resistance training adaptations (body composition, muscle strength, and functional capacity) are significantly attenuated in elderly women with sarcopenic obesity compared to those without the condition.
For elderly women with sarcopenic obesity, standard resistance training protocols (2x/week) may not yield the same body composition or functional improvements seen in non-obese peers. To see better results, these individuals may need higher training frequencies (3x/week), longer intervention durations, or combined dietary interventions to address the underlying lipotoxicity and anabolic resistance.
Results suggest that adaptations induced by 16 weeks of RT are attenuated in elderly woman with SO, compromising improvements in adiposity indices and gains in muscle strength and functional capacity.
