Energy balance

Modest weight loss of 3-5% yields clinically meaningful health benefits, but progressive weight loss beyond 15% is required for disease modification in T2D.

You do not need to lose 15% of your body weight to see health benefits. Losing just 3-5% of your weight produces clinically meaningful improvements. However, if your goal is to potentially reverse type 2 diabetes entirely, you need to aim for a larger loss of over 15%. Start with the smaller goal to get immediate health wins, then build toward the larger target.

While clinical benefits typically set in upon achieving a weight loss of 3– 5%, these benefits are progressive leading to further health improvements, and weight loss of >15% can have a disease- modifying effect in people with T2D
