Insulin resistance (IR) and the resulting hyperinsulinemia constitute the primary shared pathogenic mechanism linking metabolic syndrome, obesity, and type 2 diabetes (T2DM), driving cardiovascular disease (CVD) risk through prothrombotic effects, endothelial dysfunction, and atherogenic dyslipidemia.
Focus on improving insulin sensitivity through lifestyle changes rather than assuming disease is inevitable due to family history. Managing insulin levels via diet and activity can mitigate the risk of cardiovascular complications associated with metabolic syndrome and obesity.
Metabolic syndrome, obesity, type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM), and CVDs are just few on the top of the list. Many of IR-associated detrimental effects are due to hyperinsulinemia, being too much of a good thing... Hyperinsulinemia is an independent risk factor for hypertension, atherosclerosis, dyslipidemia, endothelial dysfunction, CVDs, obesity, and T2DM.
